Having a baby is a pretty huge deal. And once you have got to the part of maternity leave, there are lots of things to think about that need doing before the baby comes. Here at We Buy Any House, we have compiled our top five tips on how to enjoy your maternity leave at home.
Mentally Switch off From Work:
In the lead up to your maternity leave, the notion of work can seem truly overwhelming. In the last few weeks, you will be ensuring that whoever is taking cover from you has everything they need, all your priorities have been seen to, and that the team is briefed fully ready for your departure. However, all of this last-minute preparation can mean that when your maternity leave does begin, you may find it hard to switch off from work. It’s important that maternity leave it not just time off- its absence so you can prepare for your new arrival. Therefore, if you’re finding it hard to switch off, remove all work-associated gear from your home. And if that means leaving your work laptop at your friend’s house- do it!
Have Everything You Need Ready:
If the big day is drawing closer and closer, then it’s a good idea to have everything you need prepared in due course. Then, it’s worthwhile creating a little plan of action regarding how you are going to act when you need to leave the house urgently. A great pointer is to have your hospital bag ready by the front door, stashed somewhere neatly but also somewhere practical in case you need to grab it in a hurry. It’s also a good idea to think about the route you are going to take to the hospital, and which are the quickest ways you can get to the hospital from your property.
Check You Have Everything at Home:
When it comes to welcoming a little baby into your life, your home is going to have to adapt significantly for at least the next eighteen years. Although it may be too early to be thinking about stair gates and hiding the TV remote, it’s also worthwhile ensuring that you have everything to accommodate a newborn baby.
Do an Essential Shop:
After your new baby comes home, the likelihood is that you won’t be able (or find it extremely difficult) to nip to the shops and do a full food shop. Therefore, before your baby comes, it’s a good idea to do a full food shop so you are able to make food while looking after your newborn baby. Additionally, it’s a good idea to do some meal prep while you are on maternity leave.
Spend Time with Friends at Home:
It’s a good idea to spend time at home with friends before your baby comes, as this will probably be one of the last times you get to spend time alone with your friends. Although this is a decision completely up to you, it may be a nice idea to spend time with friends and have one last hurrah together before the baby comes.
